???????Good News Reaches the Border Villages
Title: Good News from Beijing Reaches the Border Villages (or Good News Delivered to the Remote Villages) ??????????????Composer: Zheng, Lu; Ma, Hongye (??????) Arranger: Zhang, Dasen (???) Conductor: Zhang, Lie (??) Performer: China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra (????????) This is my favorite music. The tune is actually borrowed from folk songs of Miao(Hmong) and Yi people. It is very amazing to see that this music is actually performed by musical instruments of many different ethnic groups in China. And the harmony is still not affected. Maybe the composer and the arranger want to express the idea that all ethnic groups in China should live peacefully together and be nice to each other. I can recognize some of the ethnic musical instruments. Mangtong (time 0:03-0:07, 2:32-2:34) is a typical musical instrument used by Miao(Hmong), Dong, Shui and Yao(Mien) people. Lusheng (time 0:43-0:48, 0:57-0:59, 1:48-1:51, 1:53-1:56) is a typical musical instrument used by Miao(Hmong), Yi, Dong, Shui, Yao(Mien) and Gelao people. The performer generally dances while playing this instrument. The well-known folk “Lusheng love song” is accompanied with beautiful tunes performed by lusheng. Yangqin (time 1:16-1:17), known as the Chinese piano, is a typical musical instrument of Shui, Jing(Kinh), Uigur and Kazakstan people. Among all Chinese classical musical instruments, yangqin is a unique instrument that widely used in other regions outside China. Pipa …

apparently the one at 3.17 is called Ling Gu, instead of Shou Gu i think, because Shou Gu refers to another seperate instrument, a drum held on the hand, usually made of snake skin.
very interesting orchestra btw.

AWESOME. I love how the lu sheng player dances! The whole ensemble is wonderfully enthusiastic. I wish I could’ve heard more of those erhu, but I guess that’s fine.
After all, this is a whole bunch on instruments all playing together in one big jubilant mash of joy!!

This is deliberate, according to this video’s summary:
“Lusheng (time 0:43-0:48, 0:57-0:59, 1:48-1:51, 1:53-1:56) is a typical musical instrument used by Miao(Hmong), Yi, Dong, Shui, Yao(Mien) and Gelao people. The performer generally dances while playing this instrument.”
